Design of cable trays

1. Finishing materials

The actual conditions of the electrical installation environment and the way the surface is treated are fundamental to the choice of material and finishing of the product. Here are common choices:
• Stainless steel
• Hot dip galvanized
• Powder Coating
• Galvanised aluminium
2. Criteria for calculation of permitted loads.

The allowable load has been calculated based on the assumption of a maximum deflection of less than 1/300 of the rhythm between two bearing points.

3. The spacing of the trees to support the cable ladder and cable weight
Standard cable trunking has a distance of 1.5m to 2m. With heavy weight cable tray
more, use the type with greater load capacity.
4. Cable protection

Power cable is fully protected when installed on a cable ladder. In the absence of space to choose the broader cable ladder, it is advisable to choose a higher cable ladder. Install additional cable ladder when ladder cable tray installed near the aisle, there are many passersby.

Choice of width. To determine the width of the cable tray ladder, first determine the following parameters:
• External size of cable
• Number of cables
• Number of cables
• Total weight of cable
• Allowable cable bend radius
• Space for installation

For example:
With cable ladders available in widths from 200mm to 1200mm, and below is a concrete example:
CV 22 x 3C, outer diameter 22mm
CV 38 x 3C, outer diameter 26mm
CV 100 x 3C, OD outer diameter 42mm
We will calculate as follows:
5 yarn of CV 22 x 3C = outer diameter 22×5 = 110 mm (1)
3 fibers of CV 38 x 3C = outer diameter 26×3 = 78 mm (2)
1 yarn of 100 x 3C = outer diameter 42×1 = 42 mm (3)
= 1 + 2 + 3 = 230 mm

Plus a 30% reserve factor = 230 x 1.3 = 299mm
We choose to use the 300mm trough.
